Gorla station

Gorla station is located at 28, via Aristotele, in the north-east part of the City; it is a medium-capacity pumping station commissioned on 16 June 1932, entirely rebuilt in 1966.

The station has 20 wells with submersible pumps drawing water from about 27 m (89 ft) below ground level; the nominal water flow totals 700 L (154 imp gal) per second.

The water reservoir and the settling basin hold 4,475 m3 (984,400 imp gal) of water. The three main 240 kW pumps drawing water from the tank into the system have a rated capacity of 350 L (77 imp gal) per second each.

A purification plant composed of 10 carbon filters was commissioned in July 1997. To offset subsequent problems of pollution from nitrates and hexavalent chromium, a purification stage composed of five reverse-osmosis lines tiered to the carbon filter plant was commissioned in February 2007.
