Loges

Direction, Guidance and Safety

LOGES is an acronym that stands for “Linea di Orientamento, Guida e Sicurezza” (Direction, Guidance and Safety) and is a system to give blind and partially sighted people “guidance and the ability to recognize places and sources of danger” as required by the current regulations (Presidential Decree 503/1996, Ministerial Decree 236/1989, etc.). LOGES consists of pedestrian surfaces which are fitted with specially designed ridges and studs which can be sensed underfoot and visually distinguished.
In order to make a public space available to everyone, the designers of MM, in agreement with the operators, have adopted this system because it is the most widely used in Italy and is also used in other European countries.
Perfectly integrated into the architectural context of the metro stations, these ‘tactile paths’, starting from the pavement outside, direct visually impaired passengers to the station entrances and facilities. Without obstructing station services, they provide orientation and perception of danger to users in general.
In Italy, this system has already been adopted in the implementation of various public works, such as the Milan Fair and in many airports, railway stations, hospitals and other places of public interest.
