Archaeological surveys

Recovery of the historical sites and artefacts

The excavation work necessary to create the metro lines and the subsequent works involving the road system proved to be important opportunities for the discovery of archaeological sites and materials concerning the ancient and medieval history of the City. Starting with construction of Line 1, mainly carried out in the centre of Milan, the works have uncovered many archaeological finds, helping to raise awareness of the glorious past of a City that has historically had a role as a place of exchange and trade throughout the ages. The works on the construction of Line 3 and now Line 4 have further contributed to discovery of the history of Milan. The archaeological survey activity is carried out in collaboration with the Archaeological Supervisory Authority of Lombardy and more recently with the Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities, the Municipality of Milan and the Committee for the Milan Expo 2015.
