The Valtellina trunk road suffers constantly from the slowing down and congestion of traffic, due both to the size of the carriageway and the need to pass through numerous built-up areas. Metropolitana Milanese, as a member of a temporary grouping of design companies, at the request of ANAS and the Lombardy Region, has developed the final design of the new route of the road as an extension of the existing Lecco-Colico motorway. The infrastructure will feature a dual carriageway section with two lanes in each direction, complete elimination of all the intersections and construction of three interchanges at different levels.
