The metro system of Genoa is a light metro system connecting the centre of Genoa with the district of Rivarolo, north-west of the City centre. In 2003, Metropolitana Milanese carried out the preliminary and final design and environmental impact analysis of the Brignole - Stadio extension, which runs underground for a distance of 1.7 km (1.1 miles) with 2 stations, serving the densely populated areas of Val Bisagno and the Marassi stadium.
