The area of Cascina Gobba contains the main road junction in the north-eastern area of Milan. Metropolitana Milanese, at the request of the City of Milan, has developed the preliminary design, final and executive designs for the reorganisation of the road layout and is currently undertaking the works management. The works initially involved Lot 1, now completed, reorganisation of the intersection of the SS 11 trunk road, Via Padova, Via Olgettina and Via Palmanova, doubling the width of Via Olgettina, and creation of a new main road running under the Line 2 to connect with Via Bormio, at the boundary with the municipality of Cologno Monzese. The works of the Lot 2 are ongoing, involving the construction of an artificial dual carriageway tunnel passing under the above-mentioned junction, which will facilitate north-south links by creating an alternative route in place of Via Olgettina.
