Duration of work

January 2011-January 2012

The design consists of the environmental regeneration of the area in front of the Accademia di Brera and Via Fiori Oscuri. It also includes the renovation of the cycle path along Via San Marco, partly through maintenance work and partly through building new sections. The design proposes the widening of the pavements and the narrowing of the road along the section of Via Brera in front of the Academy. A new cycle path will be built along Via San Marco, which is between Via Pontaccio and Via Ancona. With regards to the remaining section of Via San Marco, the intersection with Via Castelfidardo will be completely redesigned to link up with the Via San Marco route and the existing track running along the main road will be removed. In the former dock area of Via San Marco, the existing concrete slabs will be removed and replaced with reclaimed granite paving slabs. General maintenance work on the existing cycle path will also take place. Landscaping will finish off the restoration works. The work will enhance the quality of these areas by improving traffic flow and pedestrian access, as well as boosting trading.
The 15th of April 2011, during the XIII Week of Culture and the 50th Salone del Mobile, the City of Milan inaugurates two important works: the new permanent illumination of the façade of the courtyard of Palazzo Brera and the redevelopment of the street of the same name.
