The axis of Via Ripamonti represents one of the main access routes from the south to the City of Milan. The road connects the southern part of the outer ring road with the western by-pass and the SS 412 Val Tidone route across the route of Via Bazzi and Via Ferrari. The axis of Via Ferrari, also connected to the main route of Via Giovanni da Cermenate and Viale Famagusta, is a dual carriageway with two lanes in each direction. The section of Via Ripamonti from Via Ferrari (junction with Via Selvanesco) and the municipal boundary has a layout which is completely inadequate for the current volume of traffic.

The development plan provides for adoption of a section of dual carriageway with two lanes in each direction together with provision for extending tram route 24 from the current tram terminus as far as Opera. It also provides for the creation of five roundabout intersections and two pedestrian and cycle paths alongside the whole length of the new route. The project also includes alteration of Via Quintosole between Via Ripamonti and Via Camporgnago. The project is complemented by a large-scale greening and planting works to facilitate incorporation into South Park.
